A BRAVE CAT, by Marianna Coppo, Chronicle Books, March 8, 2022, Hardcover, $17.99 (ages 5-8)
Marianna Coppo’s A Brave Cat follows a feline as she tests her bravery just outside the world she’s grown to know and love.
Olivia is an indoor cat — a brave adventurer, a tireless traveler, and a fearless explorer who is never afraid. From hunting fierce shoelaces to climbing all the way to the top of the bookcase, Olivia has always been able to count on her bravery. But will it be enough to help her face the big, uncertain world outside her home? —Synopsis provided by Chronicle Books
A Brave Cat celebrates small acts of courage, which can feel very big at the time of doing them. Kids will immediately relate to Olivia’s desires to explore further while still feeling trepidation. Author/illustrator utilizes sparce and simple text combined with colorful images to tell her story. The publisher’s suggested age is 5-8, but it might be a little too simple for 8-year-olds. I suggest ages 4-7.
