The Courage of the Little Hummingbird is a retelling of a folktale that has multiple versions, though the origins are likely are likely to have started with the Quechua people of modern-day Ecuador. In her version, author Leah Henderson honors the hummingbird’s bravery to do, “all that I can.”
Henderson’s lyrical prose is paired perfectly with Magaly Morales’ bold illustrations. Her meticulous images are full of vivid color and movement.
An author’s note, as well as back matter on the origins of the folktale and facts about hummingbirds is included at the end.
The Courage of the Little Hummingbird encourages others to do what they can when faced with insurmountable odds.
