“GOOD NIGHT, WORLD,” by Willa Perlman and Carolyn Fisher, Beach Lane, July 12, 2011, $16.99 (ages 2-5)
“Good night, world; it’s time for bed. It’s time for me to rest my head.”
A young child gets ready for bed by saying goodnight to the Earth, its inhabitants and worlds beyond.
From plants and animals to mountains, oceans and wide desert plains, readers visit the world’s natural wonders.
“Good Night World” is an explosion of color. Each page features bold illustrations that are textured and alive with movement. Illustrator Carolyn Fisher’s collages are beautifully layered and flow perfectly with the text. Though, the child does on occasion feel less cohesive than other elements — animals, birds, nature.
Willa Perlman’s text is soothing and poetic and sets a gentle tone throughout.
